I’ll own a mini-godzilla.

Until then, I’ll watch rewatch these old rally videos over and over and over...

The best hot hatch ever made.

no doubt.

it embodies what it means to be a hot hatch. AWD, turbo charged inline 4, and an absurd power to weight ratio of 0.083.

These pop up locally from time to time at prices that seem more than fair. I wonder how much work it would be to keep them maintained...

Several years ago there were a couple of these for sale at an estate auction only about a 100 miles from me. One that worked, and one that needed work... I seriously considered bidding on them. But this was in... Uh, 2012? 2013? In any case, they were *not* legal yet at that time and I decided against it. I wouldn’t have been able to afford them anyway, the pair went for something like $ 12 k, which seems pretty reasonable these days, but my hard limit at that time was <$8k. And I wouldn’t have been able to legally drive the working one for another few years, I think it was a ‘94 actually, so not until THIS year.

WRX STI - AWD, turbo boxer 4, and an even more absurd power to weight ratio of 0.0906 (stock). :)

WOW that’s a kickass story.

I would have been sketched out about the 25 year ban too. but both for $12k? sheeeeit they’re going for $15k for decent examples nowadays.

seems like people are realizing these are just as fun as it’s cousin, the skyline.

I’ve pondered the very same thing.

I’ve read a lot that the hood scoop had a weird quirk that would actually let in water if it was raining hard enough , and flood  the engine.

And you talk about WRX head gasket problems, which, by the way, haven’t been an issue for years. :D

yes but they were still an issue when the STi was a hot hatch, which is what I thought you were referencing haha

They can be picked up fairly cheap here in NZ, but its a pretty well known fact that the gearboxes do not like hard launches. i.e, they are made of glass. Apart from that, they are cooool cars.

There are a few importers that bring these in regularly. Japanese classics has one a modified one for 15k.

The sr20det is a fine motor but I’ve read that they eat drivetrain parts (including gear boxes) and there aren’t a lot of aftermarket solutions (if any).

But I agree that they are really cool.

Nah. 2014 was the last year of the WRX hot hatch. Head gaskets weren’t an issue any more or I wouldn’t have bought one!
